ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNER

PHOTOMONTH east london photography festival is pleased to announce the winner of it’s first Youth Photography Award sponsored by The World Photography Organisation.

The theme for the first award is Children’s Rights in support of the 20th Anniversary of the UNICEF Convention of the Rights of the Child.



WINNER Jasper Cox (16 yrs) Milton Keynes
Jasper Cox is currently attending Aylesbury Grammer School. His winning photograph was taken on a school exchange trip to Malawi in March 2009. Students from the Malosa School will be visiting his school in July 2010.

Following the theme for the first Photomonth Youth Award in support of the UNICEF Convention of the Rights of the Child Jasper’s winning image illustrates ‘Every child has the right to be heard’ with a group of young Malawian students in discussion.

Jasper is a keen photographer and has been inspired by some works of Ansel Adams hanging in his home. He is currently in the sixth form and hopes to go to university and read modern languages and become a journalist. He loves football and supports Manchester United. He plays the drums and his favourite of all-time bands are Blink 182 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.




RUNNER UP Syeda Tahmina Raza (17 yrs) Tower Hamlets, London
Tahmina is currently studying at Central Foundation Girls School in Tower Hamlets, East London. Her photo ‘Every child has a right to a childhood’ was taken on her mobile phone in a local park and shows two teenagers in a playground on the under 5’s swings. Her image aims to portray that no matter how old you are, you may always express your inner child.

PHOTOMONTH east london photography festival takes place in October & November each year. It is the largest photography festival in the UK and In 2010 celebrates its 10th Anniversary.

The Winner will fly to Cannes in April 2010 to attend the annual Sony World Photography Awards accompanied by a parent. The Runner Up will receive a small Sony Digital camera and the top five photographs including the winner, runner up and the three highly commended entries will be exhibited in the photomonth photo-open in October 2010 at the Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, London E1.
